05 Moments: Milena from Shadow Plus

In 05 Moments we share the most intimate rituals, gestures and contemplations that make life truly humane. This is a mindfulness journal narrated by women who inspire us. In times when time is somehow a conceptual value rather than capitalising one, 05 Moments would like to remind you about the privilege to feel, hear, see and touch. An ode to the senses and more, we hope to nourish a really important relationship- the one with the Self. When the world is slowing down, this same quality of mindful observation is what’s going to bring vibrations higher and overcome fear and anxiety. May what you read appeals to your own world of rituals and observations so we learn together to worship the small moments- somehow larger than life.

Meet Milena and her meditative moments - muse, entrepreneur, and adventurous spirit. Though her daily “agenda” is out of the “must-do” context, her moments of awareness unlock creativity. One can’t help but feel completely relaxed when in her presence. She possesses the calming attitude of the observer. The deep blue and the strong green of her eyes are revealing more complexity of the character than what she is eager to show at first. Milena describes herself as being more of an ambivert. As an intrepid traveller and the muse of many chef d’oeuvres by renowned travel photographer Dimitar Karanikolov, the extrovert will show up to meet the world. As an artist and creator, she would prefer to contemplate on her own with eagerness to collaborate. Her brand of fedora hats Shadow Plus is a well-thought project combining her marketing background and her interest in visual arts.

01. Diversity

Diversity is what keeps me motivated. Whether it’s trying something for the first time, meeting new people or travelling to a new destination. That’s what keeps my vibe higher. Diverse experiences drive me forward and that might be the reason to leave the digital agency I’ve worked for and start something on my own. Change is the staple of my life and you won’t see me waking up with an alarm or having a fixed agenda.

02. Creation

I like people that are “Doers”. The act of creating is taking me out of my comfort - one of the reasons I decided to start my own business. When I work on my own brief I feel much more energized and inspired. Art, in general, is an essential energy source. Whether I am looking at art in the digital world of Muzly and Behance, observing it in galleries or creating it myself, I get inspiration that reflects into my everyday life.

I like to paint. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t but this still gives me a meditative feeling.

I wish one day I can create more and consume less.

03. Movement

One of my latest achievements was to learn how to kitesurf. It requires quite the motivation and one has to stick with it even when the first ten days haven’t taught you to stand on the board. Whether I do yoga, kitesurfing, or simply walk in the forest, movement is one of the best ways to keep my energy levels high. I find myself doing mostly activities where I can be alone.

04. Sunsets

I’m a sunset junkie! Watching the sunset is something I can do whenever I may almost every day and it’s kind of a ritual when we travel with my boyfriend- we would always look to find the spot. This is an essential part of the journey and I believe the serenity of it is one of the best ways to enjoy the moment. Plus I guarantee you could never have the same sunset again.

05. Breathe

Reminding myself to breathe deep is a technique I am trying to adopt as a daily ritual. Essential oils, candles and such sensory treatments are a source of balance- the act of deep breathing brings calm and well-being to the Self.
