HOW ARE WE SUSTAINABLE?

We strongly believe that design can be cool, comfortable and conscious at the same time. And we also believe in transparency. Are we 100% sustainable? No, but we try to implement as many sustainable practices and materials as we can. Below you can read about them.

One of our favourite quotes that perfectly resonates with our beliefs is by Anne-Marie Bonneau aka @zerowastechef:

“We may never reach the zero in “zero waste” but that’s no reason to take zero action.”

Or in other words every small step matters and we should always strive to get better and make positive changes.

We encourage you to make educated shopping choice and to choose small independent brands, local makers and artists that put a lot of effort, energy and attention in their work.

DEADSTOCK FABRICS

Most of the times sourcing the right fabrics is the most important thing of the design process. Since the beginning of our work we have tried to reduce the environmental impact of the production process by finding sustainable fabric solutions. We've been working mostly with upcycled deadstock fabrics from Italian manufacturers for 3 years now. Deadstock fabrics are sur plus (or end of roll) fabrics that have either been bought by companies and never used or fabric manufacturers have produced more than needed. Finding such fabrics help us produce more ethical collections and helps the Earth because there are no new fabrics produced especially for our collections. We use perfectly good fabrics that would otherwise be left aside.

Most importantly, using deadstock fabrics means that we don't purchase fabrics to be produced for us. We don't require any new raw resources to be made, we just use something that has already been produced and left aside thus giving it second life.

We buy small quantities of Italian mesh for some of our models but we always make sure to buy just the amount we need and know we will use. Our swimwear line is created entirety using Italian deadstock fabrics that are fast drying, pilling, chlorine and UV resistant, allowing you to wear them season after season.

We are dyeing some of the finishing materials locally and if we have to purchase any accessories for our garments outside of Bulgaria we find companies within the EU so we can lower the carbon footprint of the shipments.

PRODUCING LOCALLY

We are proud that all of our garments are produced in a small factory in Sofia, Bulgaria. Producing locally, allows us to reduce our emissions from unnecessary shipping and transportation. Furthermore, producing locally also means supporting the local economy and contribute to its growth. It also gives us better control and transparency over the production. The regular visits ensure us that the workers are paid fairly and have excellent working conditions. Throughout the years we've managed to built a friendly relationship with the people manufacturing our goods. We know their family members and even when they're expecting their grandchildren which creates a laid back atmosphere and trust.

We personally put a lot of handwork in every single piece that comes out. We make and cut all the patterns ourselves and then we send them to the sewing atelier to get put together in a final piece.

All of our campaigns are shot in Bulgaria with local creatives. Throughout the years the brand has introduced us to amazing people some of them we can now call friends.

PACKAGING

Packaging is another area where companies has to be aware of the waste they produce. We want to keep our products as safe as possible during shipping but we also want to provide you with a great unboxing experience when you receive your order. We are constantly looking for better packaging solutions so that it shows our attention to the customer and at the same time to resonate not only with our branding but also with our values. Currently, we are gradually switching to only compostable or recycled packaging materials, to minimize the waste.

Your order comes in a box made from recycled card board (as a tip: we highly encourage you to find a way to reuse your box). It's also recyclable so make sure to put it into the paper bin if you're not going to use it anymore. We order the boxes from a local company and they are produced here in our city. The items you've ordered are wrapped in recycled tissue. Our paper tags and greeting cards that you will find inside the package are printed on 100% recycled paper that has environmental certifications. Why not use our greeting cards as bookmarks in order to reuse them and have a small reminder?

We're using compostable mailers to ship all of the standard delivery orders. They are durable and look like any other mailer however they are made of corn starch and therefore are an organic matter that when left in the nature will degrade as any other fruit or vegetable. This means that no toxic emissions will be let in the nature. They have a strict Australian Standard certification and are a great sustainable choice that supports the circular economy. As a rule of thumb, treat the compostable mailers as an orgabic matter. If you have a home compost you're already a hero so just throw it there. If you have a local commercial composter then this is where the mailer should go. If you don't have access to a composter throw the mailer in the general bin where it will decompost as fast as your other food waste.
