"Our house is on fire — let’s act like it. We demand climate justice for everyone.” - Fridays for Future

In support of the Climate Strike we’ve created a list of 12 tips that you can start using today for a more sustainable daily life.

Doing a change does not mean being perfect in living a sustainable life. Every small act, counts. You have probably heard of some of our tips, or maybe even all of them. Maybe you haven’t heard of any of those tips, but you are already doing them without even realizing. Or maybe, our article will inspire you to incorporate something new and better for the environment into your life. Whether it’s your diet, the way you shop, the way you work or commute. Whatever the case is, EVERYTHING COUNTS even the smallest things!

1. Consume mindfully

Buy second-hand or vintage whenever possible. Long gone are the days when second-hand was considered trashy. Now the vintage and second-hand shops are more popular than ever not only because you can find amazing gems but also because we desperately need to stop buying more and more new things and give a second chance to the clothes that are already produced. Find some inspiration from one of our favourite Instagram account Naninvintage. For our Bulgarian readers - FREA has some super cool finds and even cooler events in Sofia.

Support and buy from small independent brands that create and produce consciously. Smaller brands have a higher transparency and you can always ask questions - where your clothes are coming from and who is making them. Independent designers put a lot of effort into their products, usually produce locally and source their materials carefully. So choose less and choose well where you put your money and support! Let us know if you’re interested and we’ll be happy to make a whole post about our favourite indie brands!

2. Buy local products and garments

Find new and exciting brands and stores around you! This way you might also get to meet the makers behind them and trust us we are always happy to chat with the people that choose to buy from us!

3. Recycle and compost

Recycle your trash whenever possible. It is a hard habit to cultivate but it gets easier and at some point you start doing it naturally. If you have a home composter, you’re already a hero! You can also find a commercial composter around you (unfortunately, not every country is big on composting). We’re switching to compostable mailers for your orders next month.
Did you know that there is a Bulgarian company that produces lamps from recycled paper? Here you can find out more.

5. Stop buying bottled water

Invest in a water filter jug and a reusable water bottle (here is our favorite water bottle that will fit in every purse).

6. Skip the dryer
Air dry your clothes using direct sunlight, this will also make their life longer. It’s better for your clothes, it’s better for the planet.

7. Get a coffee to-go in your own cup
If you’re a busy coffee lover who can’t get through the day without a few cups, bring your own cup (some shops even give you a discount if you bring your own mug). We recommend KeepCup.

8. Bring your own bag

Keep a reusable shopper bag with you and use it in the supermarket or when buying fruit or veggies. It will save you and the earth a lot of plastic bags. Check Turtle Bags but any other cotton shopper bag will do.

And for all of you dog lovers, there are now many options for a biodegradable dog poo bags, check some of them here.

There is a super cool startup coming up soon focused on innovative feminine products - Daye are plastic free pain relieving tampons that are CBD-infused. Can’t wait for them to launch and try them out!

11. Switch to alternative hygienic and beauty products
There are numerous alternatives including bamboo tooth brushes and bamboo cotton swabs that are already available in a lot of store both online and offline. Use reusable cotton pads to remove your makeup. Also, it is super fun to make your own face masks and beauty products. And don’t forget to stop the water while brushing your teeth!

12. Change your diet
Animal agriculture and meat production have a huge impact on green-gas emissions and global warming.
Avoiding or lowering your meat and dairy intake can reduce enormously your environmental impact and carbon footprint.
